On/Off/Over the Edge

Travel Schedule
Exhibition List
The prints, paperworks and bookworks selected for this travelling exhibition by the American Print Alliance explore the concept of the "edge" in all of its possibilities, from figurative to literal, formal to conceptual, psychological to physical. Being "on the edge" implies the prescient moment, implicit danger, a palpable sharpness. "Off the edge" suggests continuation and disorientation, off on a tangent, off balance. Going "over the edge" is an adventure into the unknown, whether philosophical or geographical. It encompasses notions of deconstruction and globalization, hybrid artistic practices and reconstructed identity, total commitment, an abandon and perhaps madness.
No Turning Back!

The competition for this exhibition accepted all print, papermaking and book arts techniques, low-tech to high tech (including computer or digital printmaking, but not reproductions of work created in other media). Subscribers to our journal, Contemporary Impressions, and members of the printmakers' councils in the American Print Alliance were eligible to enter. Dr. Carol Pulin, Director of the Alliance, selected forty-eight original works of art.

On/Off/Over the Edge travels through 2003 and will be shown at neighborhood arts centers, small colleges and large universities from Florida to Washington. Viewers can enjoy the aesthetic experience and be challenged by the ideas explored. Several times are still available in the schedule. To show the exhibition at your school or arts center, please send an e-mail request to printalliance@mindspring.com or telephone 770/486-6680 noon-8 pm Eastern.
